Its turning out the same as before politics-wise

by Angeline Booher / September 16, 2008 8:28 AM PDT

Those who support McCain can only post negative links about Obama.

Those who support Obama can only postnegative links about McCain.

Can't you guys find anything positive to say about your candidate?

Must you claim an attack each time somebody disagrees?

Just like the last election.

Looks like politics is again a no no in SE.

I'd say...
by J. Vega / September 16, 2008 8:36 AM PDT

I'd say that lately those who support Obama tend to go after Palin. Some people can't help but notice that some things tend to be deleted, while others are not.
Sorry, Angeline, but it's geting obvious.

What's been getting deleted?

I haven't noticed a lot of that happening but there is no mechanism for noting what has been deleted in this software.

People have opinions. It's not a sin.

Just for the record...

John McCain is a war hero with a long record of patriot9c service ot his country. He is able and proficient and I think would make a great President.

His running mate, Sarah Palin is an accomplished Governor and a very intelligent woman, who would make a fine Vice-President and if need be, President.

How's that?

But both have made speeches and policy statements over the past few days. Missed them???

Seen any of the new red state-blue state maps?

Heck, EdH. There is news out there!

I know there is "news" out there...

In reply to: Its a start.

No need to be so condescending. I am probably paying closer attention than you are. My point is, just boosting your candidate is kinda boring and very limiting. It's like saying "I like pie."

The "new" speeches and policy statements have been nothing "new". And quite predictable. It was almost funny to see them reacting to the economic news today, which will be old and out of date long before they have any chance to do anything, and which will have been dealt with long since.

Political discourse has always, everywhere featured arguments of the kind you object to. Maybe just don't read them? I have learned to ignore certain topics and certain posters.

What's intelligent and important is in the eye of the beholder.

I caught your mocking tone again just fine.
by Angeline Booher / September 16, 2008 11:37 PM PDT

Perhaps the implication is that either my gene pool is inferior to yours, or my blue hair has made it defective.

I have to read the posts that violate the TOS. Maybe that is how some people talk to each other, their family and friends , co-workers and neighbors in real life. They might not violate your TOS, and you might find ours silly. But CNet stands behind it.

I do have a point to add, however.

Re: how political "arguments" have differed from the past.

The advent of 24/7 news coverage. talk radio, the internet, blogs, email, all combine to keep the fires burning. There used to be cooling off periods which gave folks a chance to take a quieter look . No more.

Boring has little value.

If people want to discuss issues, fine. But let the record show that there have been mainly attacks and trolls from the left.

Perhaps you missed some of the deletions

Whether or not something is sinful is not the criteria to be followed here.

The fact remains that insulting is not discussing. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see posts that are designed to bait. And the fisherman knows just where to cast. Others wait on the bank to join in.

For those who enjoy that sort of whatever it is, those who do not should not have to endure it. Sometimes buried in the chaff are some bright, intelligent posts, if one can wade through.

There are several people who have been missing for months that have now reappeared to continue their HATE BUSH HATE REPUBLICANS crap.

They caused the problems in the past and they are doing it again.

That is what is going on.

if they hate Bush/Republicans. But quite alright if the other way? Hmmm, interesting.

And "they" caused "the problems" ?

I'd say that the problem is personal attacks, which unfortunately arise often from political posts. Ninety percent of the dischord here could be eliminated if people would take a breath or two before firing off invective. If one is sure of one's position he/she should not have to "convince" others of the "error of their ways".

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
