Italics in IE

Feb 4, 2005 8:06AM PST

I have WinXP and IE 6. A few days ago almost everything started showing up italicized on many of the pages I access on the internet (Google, MSN, etc.). I don't know how this has happened and I can't find any way to turn this off (System Restore has not helped).

Does anyone know how I can get rid of the italics - which seems to have been set as some sort of default for me now in IE.

Thanks so much.

Debbie

Try looking at your Tools Menu...

Internet Options and the General Tab. You should see a button labeled Fonts. See what you have selected (try Latin based for Language Script, then Times New Roman for Web page font and Courier New ).

Italics in IE

Thanks for responding Edward. The settings you gave (Latin based, Times New Roman, Courier New) are my current settings. I had already tried changing these settings to see if it made any difference with the italics, but it didn't. I simply don't know where else to go to get rid of this vexing italicization problem. It's so strange.

Thanks again Edward,

Debbie

Changed themes lately?
Feb 4, 2005 9:40PM PST

This problem has been reported with certain XP themes. Some have fixed it by switching theme to Windows Classic. The italics problem goes away and stays gone after switching back to the theme of their choice. I can't remember if a reboot in between was called for, but it wouldn't hurt to do that, just in case.

Hi sheilakmcd. Thanks for taking the time to help.

No, I had not changed themes anytime before the italica problem arose. In trying to solve the problem, though, I spent a great deal of time changing themes, etc, but without any success.

I just did a Google search and found a possible solution to this problem - which is to re-download the Arial font because the current font file is probably corrupted. And I think that this is probably the case because in wordpad there is no ?normal? option available for Arial ? only italics. Also, I went to the WINDOWS/FONTS file and the Arial (True Type) file will not open (all the other font files will). So maybe this is my solution.

But where do I go to find the Arial True Type file to download? I have been searching on the internet but with no luck. Do you know where I can download this font?

Thanks again,

Debbie

Problem solved. I deleted the corrupt Arial font file from WINDOWS/FONTS and downloaded the new Ariel file from your internet link and put it into the FONTS file. Now everything is back to normal. What a relief.

Thanks so much for your help, Edward - and thanks to everyone else here who came to my assistance. This forum has gotten me out of trouble more than once. It's great to have all you guys here willing to help us out.
