Question

It there a HUGE W10 update circulating

by Spike715 / April 12, 2016 5:30 PM PDT

I have 4 W10 machines and one of them is stuck in startup mode (blue screen with circulating white dots). Has MS released a big update and (at least) some machines don't identify it as such, e.g. with a "Don't turn off the power. Windows is updating" or similar message?

TIA for feedback/info.

How many times do I need to learn this "trick?" <duh>
My machine was "stuck" for over and hour. I have a fairly new MB with and i5 processor and 32GB of RAM so I shouldn't be hardware limited.
Reboot fixes most problems... I just didn't want to do it in the middle of an update.

Does it have the old style HDD?

I see our new spiffy SSD machines took less than half the update time. And we have yet to go over 16GB. So everyone gets 8GB and programmers get 16.

I will add that someone had a long long longest update this week. The only item we could see that made it take longer was McAfee. I can't address why McAfee appears to be why it took them hours to get the Tuesday update.

can't you set it to download in background?

Or limit the amount of CPU time devoted to downloads?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
