Question

IT setup for field reps

Jan 15, 2015 12:35AM PST

Say you have someone that you can train in a day or so to use a variety of technology to collect and upload data from customers homes such as images, measurements, video, client info etc.

if an appointment has been made to visit their home, how could the potential data which is available be best used to create a modern version of a sales quotation?

Just a bit of background, I'm doing this as a hobby/business project and trying to earn a bit of extra cash, I figured maybe I could create a brand and sell other businesses goods or services through my own brand.

Answer
Given today's data breaches a recipe for a disaster.

Just what thieves would like to know about homes before they visit. This system (apps, server side apps, etc.) is surely more than a one person job. You declare it to be a hobby so why not build/make it now?

Authoring software today is much easier than it was say just a decade ago but some folk I meet can't write one line of script and want a full up system yet, well, that's going to take programmers.

yes, I'd like to make it now, and I just need it to be a one person job, this is a small p/t business so I'm trying to find a reasonably cost effective solution.

So you are looking to buy this system?

I took it as you wanted to create this system. OK, it would take a crew of folk and a system architect then working with the divas and personalities you always get on such a team. One of the team would be just for security so figure a bargain price of a few million for such a system.

Also, is this your first system? Usually folk develop apps on a smaller scale before they tackle this one.

Also, my bet is that you may encounter a few gorillas in the security market. ADT would be one of those animals.

Answer
Reveal what is being sold.

For example, CARPET SALES would be, could be the same old system. I can't guess why any video would be involved and getting MODERN would be an iPad app with your designers choice of upload via cellular or other.

There are now easier to create apps and more app developers out there but for sales quotes in the field I'd go the Apple iPad route. There may be the folk new to this and will go Android but for sales, well, it's a well beat up, discussed why we get the Apple.
