....so says a poster on another forum.
"These so-called Swiftboat pawns make me ill. Really. Time to get real about Nam.
I'm sitting here with two PHs. God help me if I were running for office. The first came when a concrete bird bath fell on top of me during a mortar attack. The second came as a result of friendly fire. Spent round lodged in my knee.
Yeah, that's the kind of crap that happens when people are shooting at each other. I never "put in" for either PH. Just got 'em. Felt stupid about the whole thing. Same with bronze star. Hell, I was just shooting in the general direction of the noise. My job was to get prisioners and bring them back for inter. My guys were the heroes, I was only trying to figure out how deep a human being could claw himself into the dirt with his bare hands.
Most of you weren't there. I was. Got shot at and stuff.
Got sent home after four months. Got discharged at 18 months. I reckon they figured I was a liability to myself and others. But I didn't serve my full year in Nam. I didn't serve my two years.
My record would be torn to shreds if I were running for office. The bronze star would be tarnished and the two PHs would be questioned - and rightfully so. But I'm far from alone."
