The elections will still go on in the various states and in most

Edward's name will still be on the ballot. If some terrible revelation about Kerry makes him look unelectable...and he is unelectable....

Excerpt from Kerry's speech last night
Mar 3, 2004 12:46AM PST
"We have no illusions about the Republican attack machine and what our opponents have done in the past and what they may try to do in the future. But I know that together we are equal to this task. I am a fighter."

Obviously Kerry has been visiting this forum! I wonder what's next, an allegation that he has three heads? Wouldn't it be nice if we could....you know....discuss the issues? Like what each candidate proposes to do about the economy, homeland security, stuff like that?

Now maybe Edwards at least will go back to earning his pay.

All politicians do it, but when anyone, Republican or Democrat misses as many days and votes as he has compaigning, they shouldn't get paid for those days. If they want to run fine, but why should we pay them a salary to campaign.

Of course incumbent presidents do it too. President does have more perks than legislature members with Air Force One to keep him in contact at public expense with job while campagning I guess.

They all do it I know, but occasionally it gripes me.

My opinion of course, and some discussion of it on local tv news lately.

Every now and then someone proposes extending the term length for US Congresscritters for just that reason -- with a two-year term, they barely get unpacked before they start campaigning for re-election.

And that is a similair reason there have been discussions in the past of changing the presidental term to one of 6 years, with no second term.

Almost both seem logical, but then you remember you'll be stuck longer when you get someone you really can't stand.

I guess that's why it's so hard to change such, so that most must really think it's necessary for change to happen.

Interesting phrasing today in his speech, he announced he was suspending his campaign for the presidency.

Maybe completely normal, but it caught my ear listening to the newscast carrying the speech.

Or maybe just the lawyer and politician in him, careful with what he says? Wink

I heard that!

I was watching a clip and thought I heard him say "suspending", so I turned to my wife and asked, "Did he say ending or suspending"? She said, "I thought he said suspending, but it MUST have been ending." Until I read your post, I didn't believe my own ears.
