The number of Jeep problems here. Why do people buy them?

Good advertising campaigns dull the senses to reality, and they outweigh the need for people to do research. The call of the wild, while sitting in a Jeep, makes people do silly things. I think after the first Terminator movie, where Sarah Connors sat in her Jeep CJ5, made a lot of people buy jeeps.

Back in the 60's . . .

and I was a teenager I wanted one. Never got one. In the 70's there were all those stories of surplus army jeeps sealed in boxes that could be had for a song. Never found one. In the late 80's had a friend who worked for a Jeep dealer. His words of wisdom to me were, "Don't buy a Jeep". I didn't. Reading the posts here makes me glad I didn't. But I would have loved to have had one of the surplus army jeeps.

Army Jeeps

Yep, I would love to have an old Army Jeep too. Ahhh...the thought of roughing it with a "trusty" Jeep with nothing more than a sleeping bag, a fishing pole, some beef jerky and a compass. From the looks of it by the number of Jeep problems, I don't think I would like to be out in the middle of nowhere depending a Jeep to get me back. But, the old Army Jeeps are nothing like the new Jeeps. A 4-cyl engine, manual transmission, no doors or windows, no electrical, no computerized engine...just a basic rough an tumble vehicle that all the new Jeeps wanted to be but never were. I've always wanted one of the old Toyota Landcruisers too but never got one.
