It's Hammer Time!!!

Apr 12, 2004 10:07AM PDT

"Tom DeLay's appearance at the Rosenberg Civic Center last weekend to explain teacher retirement was everything I could have wished for -- Tom was arrogant, rude, patronizing, and I have 400 witnesses to prove it. And then, as if determined to make this the best day of my entire life, Tom threatened to have people "removed" and would not allow the news media into the room...

Tom was there to explain to Fort Bend teachers why he won't let HR 594 come to the House floor for a vote. Being as how Tom couldn't explain that without using words to describe himself like mean, condescending, hateful, and/or money grubbing egg-sucking-dog elitist in a heap of donkey dump, he took another route. Instead, he chose to explain that gypping Texas schoolteachers out of their full retirement is good for them and wonderful for the Iraqi rebuilding effort.

It didn't go over well."

ROTF. Juanita, you gotta love her!

She describes that meeting to a T. Juanita has taken on just about every politician in Fort Bend County, doesn't pull any punches and has accomplished much. I'm surprised she is still alive. LOL

Newspaper owners, you gotta envy 'um.

Hi, Blake.

He also said that "teachers make too much for what they do." Guess he doesn't believe in investing in the future of the country -- but that's no surprise!

Everyone knows teaching is a snap. ........ Well, don't they?

Delay is one of those that on the one hand says Teachers have an easy job and don't really do much work, but, on the other hand he expects the Teachers of this country to raise our children for us.

A TEACHER'S JOB

Let me see if I have this right...

You want me to go into that room with all of those kids and fill their every waking moment with love for learning. Not only that, I'm supposed to instill a sense of pride in their ethnicity, behaviorally modify disruptive behavior, and observe them for signs of abuse and T-shirt messages.

I am to fight the war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, check their backpacks for guns, and raise their self-esteem.

I'm to teach them patriotism, good citizenship, sportsmanship, and fair play, how and where to register to vote, how to balance a checkbook, and how to apply for a job.

I am to check their heads occasionally for lice, maintain a safe environment, recognize signs of potential anti-social behavior, offer advice, write letters of recommendation for student employment and scholarship, encourage respect for the cultural diversity of others, and, oh yeah, always make sure that I give the girls in my class 50% of my attention.

I'm required by my contract to be working on my own time summers and evenings at my own expense toward advance certification and a master's degree, and after school, I am to attend committee and faculty meetings and participate in staff development training to maintain my employment status.

I am to be a paragon of of virtue larger than life, such that my very presence will awe my students into being obedient and respectful of authority.

I am to pledge allegiance to supporting family values, a return to the basics, and to my current administration. I am to incorporate technology
into the learning, and monitor all WEB sites while providing a personal relationship with each student.

I am to decide who might be potentially dangerous and/or liable to commit crimes in school or who is possibly being abused, and I can be sent to jail for not mentioning these suspicions.

I am to make sure all students pass the state and federally mandated testing and all classes, whether or not they attend school on a regular basis or complete any of the work assigned. Plus, I am expected to make sure that all of the students with handicaps are guaranteed a free and equal education, reguardless of their mental or physical handicap.

I am to communicate frequently with each student's parent by letter, phone, newsletter, and grade card. I'm to do all of this with just a piece of chalk, a computer, a few books, a bulletin board, a 45 minute more-or-less plan time, and a big smile, all on a starting salary that qualifies my family for food stamps in many states.

Is that all?

And you want me to do all of this and you expect me NOT TO PRAY???

One can only wonder how it took this long.....

....for Delay's constituents to realize what kind of man they keep re-electing. I just hope they don't repeat their mistake yet again.

Actually that's the same thing I've wondered about Ted Kennedy for years, with all the scandals and near scandals and questions about his adventures over the years.

The normal answer seems to be but look what he's gotten for us.

Of course, some wondered the same thing about NC Senator Helms over the years.
