It pretty much has already.

Professional photographers are using the higher-resolution digital cameras, some newspapers (at least) haven't used film photography in years, and film manufacturers are cutting back film production, laying off employees and manufacturing digital cameras and accessories.

Digital photography is becoming increasingly dominant, while film photography is becoming increasingly marginalized.
