IT Losing Ground in Virus Battle

Antivirus researchers are considering whether the rapid spread of the MyDoom worm signals a breakdown in antivirus tactics. MyDoom could only spread if users opened the viral attachment in MyDoom e-mails, something many did despite years of warning from security experts that this spreads viruses. MyDoom disguised itself as a rejected e-mail with little information, prodding user curiosity into opening the file attachment. Viruses are starting to bring along Trojans, back-doors, and keystroke loggers to make infected computers even more vulnerable. Some researchers believe enterprises place too little emphasis on security, leaving users uninformed. Dan Geer of Verdasys has suggested a sort of Center for Disease Control and Prevention for Internet viruses
