Question

IT Careers: Getting Master's Degree but no Bachelor's in IT?

Nov 24, 2014 2:12AM PST

Hello,

I've done a bachelor's degree in physics in England and I'm thinking of doing a master's degree in software engineering in Australia. I'm familiar with C++ and Java programming, and I've worked with Linux operating systems.

What do you think are my prospects of getting a job in the IT field if I do the Master's degree? Will I be at a major disadvantage as I have no bachelor's degree in IT?

Please help!

Answer
Your Experience In IT Will Count A Lot

The education is good, plus getting certification is also a good thing, but the experience will help just as much. If you don't have such experience, get some.

Hope this helps.

entry level while going to school and that should get the best results. Even if you have to take a help desk position for a little bit. My company promotes alot of the help desk people to Windows server jobs, security and network positions. There are less that move into programming positions there aren't alot that come into help desk with programming skills. We did have one that went from help desk to windows server to application development.
