Entire piece worth reading, if only for a snapshot of our brave new world. Excerpts:

"Refinitiv was formed last year when Reuters News’ parent company Thomson Reuters Corp sold a 55% stake in its Financial & Risk (F&R) unit to a group led by private equity firm Blackstone Group LP."

Thomson is British.
https://www.thomsonreuters.com/en.html
Blackstone is American.

(See? Wikipedia can be useful.)
So, China dictates to the outside world as well?*

"In an internal memo to staff, Reuters President Michael Friedenberg and Editor-in-Chief Steve Adler said the news organization had spoken to Refinitiv and expressed its concern. They urged staff to 'continue reporting as you always would: to pursue the truth, without fear or favor.' "

What catches my eye here is the Chinese attitude that 'nothing happened'. Like your meme, but their actions say they believe it!

* Correct answer: Yes.

Governments consider themselves damaged by protests.
Jun 4, 2019 7:21PM PDT

Soviet dissenters were often placed in psychiatric hospitals because 'only a crazy person could not love Soviet life'.

A schoolteacher in Zimbabwe, under Mugabe, was arrested for walking to work when he couldn't afford gasoline. Had the bad taste to say so publicly.

Several countries have laws against 'bringing discredit on or disaparaging' the country. Including telling the simple, verifiable truth.

BO's government wasn't 'damaged'

by protests and riots that HE encouraged almost daily......BO's government was LIFTED and INSPIRED by them to go even further with his divisive agenda.

Preventive measures?
Jun 5, 2019 2:34AM PDT

Could it simply be that, without the prospect of violence occurring, news media ignore protests. Without media attention, protests don't have much impact on public opinion. Perhaps it can almost be projected that a protest will lead to violent or destructive behavior. Police who need to deal with such violence are in danger of both personal injury and legal action against themselves. Maybe it's better to remove the temptation before the bad side of human nature is allowed to show.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-australia-security-media/australian-media-decry-raids-on-national-broadcaster-abc-and-news-corp-idUSKCN1T60C6

Aussie government raids national broadcaster ABC offices, in re national security leaks.

From the article:
Peter Greste, director of the Alliance for Journalists’ Freedom, said the raids were a serious issue for Australians who he said cared deeply about press freedom.
Greste is a former Al Jazeera reporter who was jailed with two colleagues in Egypt from 2013-2015 on national security charges brought by the Egyptian government.
"I’m not suggesting that Australia is about to become Egypt any time soon but what we are seeing seems to me to be on the same spectrum,” said.

Read the article and consider whether the leaks weakened security or embarrassed government officials.

Did you have outrage

or even comments against this during the BO's rampage and spying going on against the AP/FOXNEWS and Jim Rosen (journalist for FoxNews) and his parents....to the point of calling Rosen a co-conspirator (sound familiar?).

Wait- are you saying it _did_ happen here???

For the record:
This BO whom you love to mention took over the Gitmo situation and made it his own, secret detentions, torture and all. For more years than the fighter pilot's son had it.
On his watch the Egyptians became the torture proxy of the CIA.
