The best way to connect this without any signal loss would be to use firewire out of your set top box (if it has it) and if your DVD recorder has it as well. I am not sure if the DVD/VCR recorder from Panasonic has this. The other way is to hook it up with s-video and composite audio. So, take a good quality s-vid from the ATSC tuner and go to the DVD recorder s-vid input and you should be fine.
Hi there.
I was hoping someone could straighten out something that is probably very straight forward for an audiovisual technician, but has become a bit of a bugbear with me.
I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-SR602 receiver, together with an Hitachi plasma, a Panasonic DVD/VCR recorder (DMR-E75V), and a digital set top box (Hotchip ODT-4000 HD.) I'm using the receiver as the control centre, so the dvd/vcr and set top box input directly into it, and the output goes to the tv. All components are connected via component (video) and optical/coaxial (audio) cables except for the vcr part which uses composite cabling.
This is the problem. Since the set top box inputs directly into the receiver, I obviously can not record any incoming tv signals via the DVD. (The receiver manual shows how a set top box can be directly connected, but not via a dvd/vcr.)
So obviously the idea is to connect the set top box to the dvd/vcr unit. The problem is, there are no component INPUTS on the dvd/vcr. There is an RF IN and a Scart connection. So what's the best way for me to connect the set top box to the dvd/vcr without compromising on the digital signal? If people would like to go further, they can suggest how I might connect each component to ensure I'm making the most of what I've purchased.
Cheers,
Peter
