Issues with new LN52B750 - strange lines

by PMantis24 / March 4, 2010 11:22 PM PST

My LN52B750 arrived on wednesday but not without issues. I would have returned it but the place I bought it from doesn't take returns and the first thing they told me when I called to ask for an exchange was contact Samsung. Even though I was very upset about this I decided to give it a try and scheduled an appointment for a tech to come out.

First issue I had was after the first power down I had trouble turning the TV back on. Red light was blinking continuously, tv sounded like it was trying to power up but couldn't. I know about the power issues Samsung's have lately. After unplugging it from the outlet and plugging it back in I was able to power it up. The problem has not returned so far.

Biggest issue I have is I have bunch of small horizontal lines running down the left side of the screen on all sources. After trying various menu settings I discovered when game mode is on the lines disappear. I understand game mode turns off a lot the processing done to the image. So it seems I have a malfunction with one of the image processors.

Here's an image of the lines.

My question is, does anyone know which board/part would be the culprit? I want to give the tech a heads up so he can possible have the right parts available or at least know what to expect before arriving. Hope someone may be able to shed some light on the problem.

I have to admit, besides the lines running down the side of my screen the image of the LN52B750 is amazing. Well this taught me a lesson on making such a big purchase from a place that doesn't allow returns or easy exchanges.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Unfortunately, I can't offer diagnosis on parts, even with the most accurate description of symptoms. The best diagnosis will be given when a technician is able to look at the set itself and determine what needs to be replaced or adjusted.

I'm sorry that you've had this issue out of the box, and I wish you had gotten better service from the seller. But I hope we can make this right.

Keep me posted.

All fixed!
by PMantis24 / March 10, 2010 7:00 AM PST

Well, the tech came out today and all is well now. Turns out the motherboard (part where all the connections go) was the part causing all the trouble. After he replaced that the strange lines were gone and no more issues powering up.

The tech arrived with parts in hand and I'm glad he was prepared. He also came with a power board, but that part of the TV was fine. It took all of 10mins to take off the back cover, replace the part, and put the cover back on.

Now that it's all fixed i'm a happy camper. Kudos to Samsung for getting a tech out to me quickly and coming with parts ready.

Back to enjoying my new TV! thanks for the response HDTech.
