Issues with ipconfig /renew, DNS PROBE

Jan 28, 2015 3:06PM PST

Hi guys,

I'm running Win7 Home Premium fully updated, checked all hardware and none are running bugs, and I find that my laptop will only be connected to the internet for a short period before it disconnects, and Chrome shows the error DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET. I am using a wall extension for my wifi router (wifi router too far away so I have one of those extension boxes), and the internet will still work on my phone but not on my laptop, and so I then open command prompt and run the following commands-

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /all
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew
netsh int ip set dns
netsh winsock reset

'ipconfig /renew' has a problem, which is as follows-

I think there is a problem with me entering netsh int ip set dns, as it doesn't do anything. I have already set my DNS server to 8.8.8.8, however that is something I did a long time ago.

This will work for a short time, however the same problem will occur and so I am stuck in this frustrating perpetual loop!

Any help would be much appreciated.

That looks great. All the others are not connected which is proper so I expect such issues/messages on those other connections.

As to Chrome, there are now many other issues such as expired antivirus, malware and more but the dump you supplied looks fine.

the problem is your incoming service line

or the wiring between it and the wiring in your house. Look for loose connections or grounding out. If you have a buried coax cable, that could be damaged in the ground.

Something that helped me diagnose a cable service issue
Jan 29, 2015 10:01PM PST

I encountered something like that recently and was noticing that the cable modem was dropping out and having to refresh itself occasionally. This didn't happen all of the time, however. I was able to http the modem and look at some information about the signal. From that, I compared it to my own as I had the same service. I found that the signal to noise ratio was considerably worse than my own. I don't know what the numbers actually mean but, right now, here's what I am showing on mine.

Frequency 639000000 Hz
Signal To Noise Ratio 40.3 dB
Power Level -2.0 dBmV
The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading

Upstream Value
Channel ID 10
Frequency 24200000 Hz
Power 38.2 dBmV

I believe that the troublesome unit showed the signal to noise ratio to be about 15-20. With that knowledge, we called the cable provider and they confirmed the issue to be with their equipment which was located in a box near the customer's home. Hope this helps.
