Issues involving stolen cell phone

Oct 4, 2005 1:58PM PDT

The phone was stolen in a bank, where there are security camaras. The person who stole the phone later demanded $1000 for the phone to be returned. Is there a way to track and prosecute this person for attempted extortion? She also sent pornographic material to all of the business contacts on the phone and so wreaked havoc in terms of the job. The cell phone number was cancelled and a police report was filed...but the police only said to check back in a few weeks. Our goal is to prosecute this person. What steps can be taken? Thanks in advance.
