Question

Issues connecting to a secure web site

Mar 13, 2017 1:40PM PDT

I am having issues connecting to a secure web site that I have previously been able to access just fine. I keep getting an error message stating the page cannot be displayed and that I should turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 When I check these settings, they are checked, still I can not gain access. I am able to sign on to every other web site but this one. Could this be a firewall issue? I am using Internet Explorer 11 and have Windows 7 Professional, if it makes any difference

Answer
Never turn on the old broken TLS.

Now set those back to the IE defaults.

Ask the web site master to see if they are indeed up.

Finally, if you installed any security suite like mcafee, norton and many others, their web browser plugins are often the cause.

Hello- I went though a process of elimination, so to speak- I unchecked all the TLS and then starting checking them and trying the website after each change. It worked the first time, with only the TLS 1.0 checked! I am no computer genius so I have no idea why it worked but it did and I am able to access the site!

That's a bad sign.

TLS 1.0 is not secure. Why do they bother?
