ISP provides Spam Protection

Nov 19, 2003 2:50AM PST
Telus, a Canadian Internet Service Provider, launched its Spam detection and Protection programme today.

This operates on the same principle as the 'Junk Mail' function of MSN and Yahoo hotmail.

The mail is still downloaded into your in box but identified in the subject header as 'Spam'.

Subscribers have the option of going to the Telus website, logging in and changing the preference to have the mail identified as Spam, deleted at the level of the ISP server.

If Telus.net looked inwards at the way THEIR users probe and dig at other people! That bunch of cowboys account for a huge volume of blocked scans at my firewall.

i was not aware of that, Dale.

have you sent something off to Telus and if so would you like me to follow it up?

I have an uncanny knack of getting things done.

Yup...

I was getting warnings about Mimail attachments (my ISP has virus scanning so I got the original email without the attachment but with a warning message about the infected attachment). Addresses were spoofed so I sent the email headers/date/time to Telus (it was a Telus IP in the headers). Got a note back that they had "taken action" and the infected emails stopped soon after.

by not only how it works, but how seamlessly it's working with Outlook and Win2K. Now, no more spending half my time sorting email...set up the rule inside Outlook, and presto! Spam is gone. I think Telus is being majorly proactive by doing this at the ISP level - 'bout time our hard-earned money saw some extra goodies. They've also recently included automatic anti-virus protection, at no extra charge, for any ADSL users. Gotta give those Stentor companies one thing - they finally got with the program. Wink

I tried to download and test the new AV from Telus, but guess the link was bad.
however I have been with AVG for over 3 years and it has been good.
i also periodically run the on line scan available from Rav Antivirus.
you are correct. the addition of the Spam Monitor at Telus has made a big difference.
I expect to convert to the 'delete at server' mode in a week after I have made sure that none of the people I correspond with have their email identified as Spam because it falls within scanning parameters.
