ISO Easy, Do-it-Yourself Free Blog and / or Website

Dec 16, 2010 4:36AM PST

My 12 yoa daughter wants to create a blog or webpage based around the genetic disorder she has so that other girls with this disorder can have a place to "get together," learn about new issues and developments, and so on. Can you tell us, if you have reviewed any of these types of do-it-yourself sites, which one(s) were recommended?

Google has BLOGGER. Why not give it a spin?

I have a Google blog or "Blogger" and it was fairly simple to use. However, I set up a blog through Wordpress specifically to see how it is or would work for you.

http://wordpress.org/

Now, it's not as popular as Blogger but it's up there and I am quite pleased with it. There is a lot of help menus, and with patience and a bit of reading, I could already set up a blog article.

So now that I have a blog set up through them, I may as well use it. So in my opinion, I am quite happy with it.

Note: If you are looking to get the information out there faster, I would think Blogger would be the way to go, but Wordpress comes up a lot as well. Also, I am not completely familiar with it yet, just so far I am liking what I see.

is if you want to download the software, rent a host, install the software, and then use it.

You can also sign up at wordpress.com instead and they host it for you. Then you can start blogging right away. Other options are tumblr.com or squarespace.com ($12/mo). I suggest take a look at all and check out their features, then go with whatever you feel comfortable with.

Or if you go to the "About" tab at .org , .com blogging is listed but yes, going to .com is easier of course.
