Is ......Your ISV Innovation Newsletter...Bogus?

Oct 16, 2008 11:58AM PDT

Just received an E-mail from "Your ISV Innovations Newsletter: October 2008". Looks like a rat, has Microsoft's name all over it but did not look like an official newsletter and was orange not blue. I have not subscribed to this newsletter thou I receive several from Microsoft. It has been deleted without checking it's links first. Will run scans to be on the safe side. This got through two filters, Microsoft's and Iolo's spam filters. Microsoft's filter was updated yesterday via the monthly updates.

What is this Virus, Malware, Spam or legitimate?

Yes I did remove it immediately

So far I've used Iolo Spy ware scanner, all clean
Windows Defender, all clean

and have downloaded and ran:

Malicious Software Removal Tool (kb890830). This program gave me an "all clear" but removed an extensive list of files, maybe 50, it described as "not infected". These seem to have been a wide ranging group of security threats that appear to have been disinfected by one or all of my security programs.

One more scan, Iolo anti-virus to go. If this one gives me an "all clear" then all is well. If not I'll report back here. I ran a anti virus scan yesterday, if anything shows up it will have been from this E-mail.

Most of my programs run "real time". I do manual scans weekly and when needed, as would be the case know.

Thank you, in advance, for your assistance.
