General discussion

is webmail private at work

Apr 4, 2011 12:12PM PDT

The question I have in not a matter of legality. Rather a matter of privacy. I work in a small office. We have one large server and all 5 of us including the administrater have a computer at our desk. All except me (because I have no reason to) have a p.o.p. e-mail address set up which uses the company email In other words smpt and p.o.p outlook express email. My outlook express is not even set up. I do not which is fine with me. All I use is my webmail and nobody know my password. My question is can the administor have access to read my email either sent or received. Again, I am not concerned with the legalality, just the fact is it able to be done? I have heard not but would like an expert opinion with you guys. And if so, how can I make it private. Thank you so much for your help

Don't count on it.

While http://www.privacyrights.org/ar/employees-rights.htm is a great read anything you type on their machines is subject to someone seeing it without anyone having a privacy right.

The lessons on such cases is clear. If you have any reason to fear it being read or seen, don't do this at the office.
