Is Volvo right? Is this the car women actually want?

Mar 2, 2004 2:25AM PST

[I}About 100 women at Volvo are doing something no one in the auto industry has ever done. They are designing a car for affluent, independent women. And it's definitely not pink.

The concept car, which will make its debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March, is a silver, sporty coupe with gull-wing doors, a 225-horsepower engine and tons of storage space. It's easy to park and easy to maintain.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2003-12-15-volvo-cover_x.htm

According to the article, supposedly what women want includes: (the expanations are in the story)

no hood
storage space
no gas cap
easy to clean
easy to park
and the tires are run-flat

The TV story on Good Morning America noted there also were no child safety seats.

Most Texas gals have that problem solved...
Mar 3, 2004 2:34AM PST

They just borrow their hubby's pickup truck that have the lockable console inbetween the front seats.

My wife rarely uses her car if my truck is not in use. She says she feels much safer in the bigger truck, not being intimidated by some rednecks. Also with the trailer hitch sticking out the back, a bump by hijacker/robbers/rapist is discouraged.

For a while she was thinking about a SUV ( sit up high & also keep up with the Joneses who in this day in time have shunned the Station Wagon). I discouraged her as many SUV's in the reasonable price range will turn over easier than a big pickup.

A Doon Buggy would be cool!

Of course they don't let you drive on the Dunes anymore (if they ever did). Sad I do remember a private outfit that took you for a ride on their dunes. Somewhere in southern Michigan as I recall.

Hi KP
They still run them around out here on the trails.

Are you having any trouble with this cnet KP. I'm going crazy here, Yesterday and this AM. Does'nt load, freezes, and other times it works good. What the hell is going on. I have 2 Oper. systems. Same on both. All the other sites work OK. Its just the Forums here. Try sneaking in the back door. Still no good. The main site of cnet seems OK.

I have an idea what the problem may be. Its not Cnet because no one else seems to have a problem. I'm Going to run some tests here before presenting to the Help Forums.

In for a penny

Lets see - I can't read the link - does it say how long it took to get 100 women to agree on anything? And going down the list of wants -
No Hood - doesn't matter she still wouldn't check the oil or water. Storage Space - my wife's car looks like several homeless people took up residence on the leather upholstry I paid extra for. You don't need more storage - you need to take things out when you get home. Gas Cap ??? Easy to clean - ever heard of a full service car wash? Easy to park - it would have to be perfectly round for a woman to park it without denting a corner - Run flat tires - my wife has done that several times - like the oil and water you occasionally have to check the tires. But if a woman got all of these things in a car what would they need husbands for? Running away to hide now Happy

She knows - I've told her time and time again. She made me buy the leather - aftermarket real stuff not that plastic Detroit crap - and then carries weeks worth of clothes, books, water bottles, CDs etc. And she is constantly complaining of back pains - I told her if she didn't carry that 75lbs. purse slung over her shoulder she probably wouldn't need to see that Chiropracter so much.
