Is TP-LINK TL-MR3020 Wireless Router good for me?

by vivekrm / January 25, 2014 7:31 PM PST

I use a USB 3G modem (Huawei EC156)to connect to the internet. I want to share that connection across these 3 devices.

a) My Desktop (via LAN)
b) My Android Phone
c) My Laptop.

I will have no problem configuring b) and c). The issue will arise when I will try to connect my PC to the internet via a standard LAN cable. I am not sure whether that router supports sharing via LAN. (i.e I know the LAN port can be used as an input - but I am not sure whether it can be used as an output as well)

Flipkart Link to the modem in question - I have not bought it yet.

So, should I buy it? Will I be able to share my internet across these devices?

Clarification Request
Tell why you asked.

I read " Share 3G/4G Mobile Connections

This portable router not just lets you connect to regular internet connections but also lets you share your 3G or 4G connections."

So while this does not answer your first question, why are you unsure about the second question?

Also, why not try Virtual Router first? Link follows.

This is the reason

Quoting myself.

"I am not sure whether that router supports sharing via LAN. (i.e I know the LAN port can be used as an input - but I am not sure whether it can be used as an output as well)"

I just want to know whether that router can share that connection to my desktop (via LAN - not wireless)

I can use virtualoruter on my laptop - I know that. I have done that before, but I can't share the same with my desktop.

Very odd.

A LAN port is both input and output. Your question tells me you are very new to networking so I'm going with this answer. Unless you can get support where you are, don't buy this.

As to the Desktop, I add a WiFi dongle for under 10 bucks here and I'm done.

Where I am, I don't have easier access to support, even from the reputed brands :).

Anyway, I bought it and your reply helped a lot. I liked the fact that it has a max range of 9 meters (by that I mean that you won't get any signal after you have reached that far away from the router).

By that is enough to provide coverage to my entire house. You have to position it that way. Its very small in size too. Since I never had much experience with routers, I didn't know much about how to configure them. However, my doubts about LAN sharing were cleared up by your reply and that helped a lot.
