downloading, updating & running Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3. Also Cool Web Shredder. Both can be obtained from:

Spybot plays nice with all other good guys. Scans differently than Adaware SE and they complement each other.
Additionally, you could enter "Mysearch*"(less quotes) in your Find Files & folders scanner and see what comes up. Because it's probably hiding in a dozen places under several names (likely in you System Restore if 2000-XP) BEST you let the programs go after it. You may have to also check your Task Manger and stop it if running there as it may prevent it's removal or may reactivate itself. You may also check your Ristricted sites folder in IE Options>security tab. If known AV companies and Anti-spyware sites are listed there then the list has been comprimised and should be deleted. (Spybot's checkbox for "enable permanent blocking of bad sites in IE" will replace a good list there.) Spybots BHO section should allow you to reset your start and search pages and lock 'em.
If all else fails, you may have to get the Hijack This program and run it and post results elsewhere for expert evaluation. I'd consider this as last resort after trying all above.
You mention Adaware (SE??). At Lavasofts site there are several ADD-ONS for Adaware. Be sure to get the VX2 cleaner(s)(1&2?) and install and run.

I have been having problems with IE6. Mainly, the word "download" anywhere on a web page appears as a link, even if it's really not. When you hover the moust over it, is says, "best download" and directs you to some mysearch program. Adaware isn't finding anything. Any suggestions?
