Is this ram compatable?

Jun 1, 2005 3:40PM PDT

I have an older HP Pavillion Desktop 502n running XP Home. It has 128mb of SDRAM. I have another stick of 128mb ram labeled PC-100. Can I add it in with the existing ram?

Is this RAM compatible?

It should be compatible, as long as the new stick is the same as the old... The most common is Unbuffered, Non ECC unregistered ram... You cannot mix ECC (Error Correction Code) and Non ECC memory... But it won't hurt anything if they don't match... Just stick it in, and turn the computer back on... If you have twice as much memory, you're good. If you get a POST code beeping at you, take it back out...

You can buy a stick of PC100 128MB ram for around $13 shipped, so it's not really a big deal if it doesn't work... But I would definitely add some memory to the thing...

Go to: www.crucial.com. They have a little program which will scan your PC and tell you exactly what RAM is for you.
