Is this legal

I was thinking a few days ago (not that i don't thing otherwise), that if I take a music file and rename it to a text file (.txt), and then upload it to the internet. Can it legally be downloaded (since it will still be a .txt file). All the new user will have to do is rename it, and play it.

No, but you can earn a hefty fine that way. I think it's

Nope, it's still illegal...

No matter that extension you change it to, or what format you convert it to, or what file you enclose it in, sharing a copyrighted song, file, program, movie, etc is still piracy. All parties involved would be eligible to be fined appropriately by the local government, and sued by the copyright holder(s), in most countries. You'd take the brunt of the blast as the music provider, but all of your downloaders could also be nailed. Thus, it's something best stayed clear of.

Hope this helps,
John
