gweedow,
That hookup is just fine. It's actually what I would have recommended if the audio and video didn't pass through the Onkyo. No adverse affects at all.

I have the Samsung 50a650 plasma, and a samsung 2550 blu-ray player. I just bought a Onkyo 5.1 av receiver ht-r370. I hooked up the blu-ray player as said to in the Onkyo manual. But when I would play a regular dvd and a blu-ray disk, the picture would black out for a few minutes and come back on. Some times I would have to eject and reload the disk and then It may not go to black for a little while or not show a picture at all, but I could here sound.
So before Onkyo tech could write me back, I tryed a different hook up. Do you think the following is O.K. and will not cause any adverse effects to my system or harm??
I changed the hookup to this. HDMI cable from blu-ray player to TV and one optical cable from TV to Onkyo receiver and another optical cable from blu-ray player to Onkyo receiver. The disks play fine now no hissing or anything to show if there is some thing wrong. I'm new to home theater systems. So I hope this is O.K. Thanks, Jim
