General discussion

Is this doable?

Mar 13, 2006 7:38AM PST

I have a Dell PC that is about 3 yrs old, running Windows XP. My son has a custom PC that is about 7yrs old and runs Windows 2000. I am planning on buying a new Laptop, which will have Windows XP.

Currently we have a linksys router (NOT wireless) to network my computer and my son's. Of course I'm going to want to add my laptop so I can use the internet. I want a wireless connection for the laptop, but my son is questioning if he's going to be able to use his computer too.

Is networking 2 XP computers and 1 2000 computer a big deal? I say all we have to do is install a wireless network card in my son's computer, but he says it's too old and won't work right?

Should we/can we keep the wired connection for my son's computer and add a wireless connection for my laptop....is that even possible?

Thanks
Cindy

At our house the kids have theirs and we have wifi (secured.) I didn't use much more information that what came with the router but added the latest firmware to the router.

Most Wireless Routers also have 4 spots to hook up wired computers. I run 3 wired computers and my laptop runs on the wireless.
Comp 1 WindowsXP
Comp 2 Linux (Just trying out different ones)
Comp 3 Windows 98
Laptop Windows XP
Just look when you shop and you will find out most of them have wired hookups also.
