Question

Is this a motherboard issue

Jul 23, 2016 6:29AM PDT

I am using a sony vaio laptop. While I am using it the screen suddenly went off. I given it to a local shop and they said there is no issue with the LCD panel. I taken it to nearest sony service center and they said that its a motherboard issue and I have to replace the motherboard.
Is this really a motherboard issue because the laptop is working with an external monitor. The problem is that the pictures are not coming to the LCD panel. If motherboard fails whether this kind of issue will happen? I don't know much about it. Looking for a reply from laptop specialist.
Thank you
