Is this a good gaming laptop?

May 16, 2015 8:39AM PDT

I have never bought a gaming laptop before, here is what i am looking at -

I want a central touchpad and wouldn't choose a non central one, i also want something for less than £900, would prefer something that doesn't overheat/loud fan.

I can guarantee it can overheat.

Just put it on a lap that blocks the vents and it's over. It's a no-name model (never seen that model in the US or Canada so it's a gamble. There are far too many posts about heat on gaming laptops. This isn't one that appears to be any different.

It does have two large vents at the back and i'm assuming that is for cooling. I will certainly be putting this on a raised laptop stand so there will be a gap underneath. I guess i still need to do a bit more research on this specific laptop and also overheating in general.

That's better.

You removed a big cause of heat. But my bet is that one could run FURMARK or such and push it over the edge on heat. Laptops are unlike desktops. These are compromise machines. If we dismiss stress tests it will likely be fine.

Looks like a Clevo

That looks like a Cleve system. If it is, they are usually pretty solid. Look into a Eurocom system. They are identical to this one and you might be able to swing a deal, if you talk to the right person.
