Question

Is this a good deal?

Feb 10, 2015 9:24AM PST

I'm been considering a PC build for months now, however budget has always been a stumbling block as I'm only a teenager.

I've had an offer from a reputable seller to buy an AMD FX-6100 and MSI 990FXA-GD80 for £70.

This is a reputable seller as his account is over two years old with thousands of posts so there's no worries there.

I know the FX-6100 is a little old and not massively well reviewed but it would probably be fine for what I want which is just a basic gaming PC to play games at medium settings 1080p and watch videos.

I personally think this is a good deal considering the MOBO sells for around £100 when new. I'm planning on teaming this up with something like a 750Ti or R9 270. The CPU and motherboard have only had a few months of use and have never been overclocked. The CPU has been used with water cooling and is only 4 months old so it's going to be in perfect condition. I've seen pictures and verified them so I know it's legit.

What are your thoughts on this deal? Would you recommend this deal? It seems almost too good to be true.

That's not much of a budget but at 106.68USD I had to take a look at the following sites:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-intel-amd-motherboard,3902.html
And finally I'll use CPUBOSS to compare the AMD FX-6100 to what I chose.

Intel Pentium G3258 for the CPU at 70USD.
Gigabyte LGA 1150 Intel H81 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX DDR3 1600 Motherboards GA-H81M-DS2V for 54USD.

So your CPU choice and board do cost less.
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Pentium-G3258-vs-AMD-FX-6100 shows a horse race between the two so my only quibble is that's it's used and as we know many boards don't age well, the lack of the warranty is troublesome.

As long as you understand that then the price seems fine.
That cpu gets you a middle of the pack unit which should be good for your needs.
