General discussion

Is there laptop which can run in extreme heat environment?

Oct 7, 2005 5:01AM PDT

The problem is the laptop is stored in a storage compartment on a well drilling truck rig where the temperature in the compartment gets to 150 degrees fahrenheit. Current laptop is shutting down when taken out of the storage compartment and booted up.

Laptops which can run under these conditions?

Other solution suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Dave

Check these out. HP also makes somes ruggedized notebooks. These are not just tough or rugged but can also withstand extreme temperatures.

more cycles, more heat....

look for a transmeta processor, or another
'lightweight' cpu. Since its the CPU that
generates most of the heat, and is most
responsible for thermal failure or shutdown
you want to go with the minimum processor
speed you can go with. Many manufactures
understate the max heat so you can probably
add another 5c to the max before shutdown occurs.
As for other components, they mostly do well
in higher temperature environments.

PDA...

...or do you really need a notebook? The new PDA's have lots of storage and memory.

The HP ToughBooks are rugged, but I'm not sure how they'd handle the heat. You should be able to go into your bios settings and bump the temp up so your notebook doesn't shutdown when hot. This is a risk, but might solve your problem without buying another notebook.

Try to chill it or go with other tech

Serious Question needs serious research????

I dunno about any possibilities for a Laptop. You definitely need to get your info from the people who build each one. Many have protective temperature settings that turn the laptop off. This setting for laptops would be almost impossible to change and at that temp you are going to be real close already Sad

I think you are SOL for a Laptop unless you get fridge in there and stick it in it. Serious suggestion btw just keep out all moisture and it should give you some an hour or two. I place lappys in the fridge when testing for thermal failure when it won't boot. No problem with doing it Happy
