Question

Is there an effective free OCR recognition application?

Dec 26, 2016 1:50AM PST

I have not used an OCR recognition application for a few years and I thought I would have a go with OneNote which is packed with Windows 10. I was amazed to find that it worked well but when I attempted to use it the next day I had forgotten the steps that I had gone through previously to make it work and no one seems able to help so my only alternative is to look for an alternative application.
I intend to use the OCR to scan a page from a book or magazine and then move it to a Word document and comment on it. So, does anyone know of such a free OCR application that is reasonably accurate?

Kees_B Are you saying that Microsoft is "noone" or that what they write doesn't work?
I’m saying that I can’t make it work.
Doesn't your scanner have this option?
I never thought of looking until I read what you said so I looked at the online manual of my Epson 1500GT scanner and it does have that option. Now all I have to do is to work out how to operate it. Many thanks.

Majority of the OCR applications with high accuracy are paid applications. The app which helped me was FineReader Online. It has good, fast and accurate text recognition. Also it provides excellent spellcheck.
