General discussion

Is there an advantage?

Mar 6, 2005 11:17PM PST

I mainly do two things with my digital camera.
I print 4x6 photos &
I create slide shows for viewing on my computer or TV.
My question is - Is there ANY advantage of a 7.1 megapixel camera over a 3.2 megapixel camera for doing these two things?

With more pixels you could take a wider shot and crop the part you want for better effect. If you take perfect shots that never need cropping then 3.2 MP is plenty.

I too make slide shows for the computer and DVDs and the software I use has the Ken Burns effect. This lets you pan and zoom within a photo.

You have more detail with the larger megapixels, which helps the zooms.

I don't know if you need 7 megapixels but I can see the difference with 4.
