Is there an adapter?

Jun 8, 2005 11:12PM PDT

hello there, i'm planning to share my adsl with my roommate, but i'm not sure if i've got a netowrk card installed or not.

i checked the back of my case, besides two usb ports, there is a port that can fit the lan cable in. i right clicked on My Computer, and chose device manager, looked under network adapters, and found three which are named: "1394 Net Adapter", "1394 Net Adapter #2", and a disabled "Intel(R) PRO/1000 CT Network Connection".

so is there one? thanks for any help. btw, i'm using winxp pro, motherboard is gigabyte p4 titan 875p.

The Intel Pro item is your ethernet adapter. It drives the LAN cable port. It is probably listed as disabled because at the moment you have nothing plugged in there. When you connect an ethernet cable from that port to the broadband router that you'll be using to share the ADSL, Windows will detect that and show the port as enabled/connected.
