Is there a way to open a file if you password protected it and forgot?

Mar 5, 2004 1:28PM PST

I'd appreciate any help you can give me. I password protected a file a long time ago and need to open it, and forgot the password. Is there a way to open it, or a copy of it so that I can work on this? I can't print it, copy it, or do anything.

Like a dummy I totally forgot the password, it's been several months.

Please help me if you can,

thanks

Generally speaking, there's no way aside from brute force cracking of the password to open it. Depending on how strong the encryption is and the speed of your computer, it could take anywhere from seconds to years to crack.

I have not tested this free program in many situations, but I have found that it will work with SlimBrowser and I assume IE, but it does not seem to work with Mozilla or Netscape. Have not tested it with Opera.
