Is there a way to fix Answer LOGIC A-TEL 1 machine?

Apr 20, 2016 6:43AM PDT

Hello to All,

Need your assistance with this problem.

I have this machine, answering machine with old cassette system for recording voice messages.

Once power is on, following happens:

Cassette recording system starts to record, then stops, back on again, stops one more time, and then rewind starts until the tape reach uts end. The motor under is still running all the the time.

No tone from headset, and phone wall jack is connected. Buttons on the base make no diffrence when pressed. One of the transistors, on the left side of the MB, nears power supply, with heatsink is HOT, very HOT all the time.

Full name of the machine: LOGIC A-TEL 1
S/N: 48279
German Product

Link to similar machine under. Also pics of device inside and outside.

Thanks a lot in advance.

This has a date code of 1993 showing on many parts.

When I see something like this I try Ebay and see if I can find working models to replace it with. What you find is that service manuals are rarely found and the cost to repair is usually more than replacement.

So that's what I do in such cases.

Must Know is it possible to operate in 2016.

@ R. Proffitt

Thank you for answering,

That's a kind of good hint for me to use in future cases.

Also, I dont like to trow away stuff before trying almost every possible solution. In this particular case, machine was once or twice used for short period.

I must know is it possible to operate in 2016, and to be manufactured in 1993, receive calls ....

Once again, thnx for your efforts.

The parts in there do tend to age and die. Here a POTS phone is so cheap that we don't fix them.

However one of my jobs in the 1990s was export control to Germany. Those were strange times as an illegally imported modem or handset could get you jail time. It was easy to figure out why the telco laws were so strict as they had roots back to WW2 days.

This is why repair was sought after as the German Telco's had an iron grip on the systems.

I m aware of the fact that these kind of components inside have life span calculated.

Also, good to know true reason why repairing is and was so hard.
