Is there a way to copy over OE mail and contacts without OE?

Oct 24, 2006 10:28PM PDT

My friend has a computer that won't boot up (corrupted files). We are going to use their recovery CDs to reload the software. He uses Outlook Express for email. We don't want to lose his email and address book. So, is there a way to save those items without using Outlook Express?

Yes. Here's the article about what files to save.

I've seen that article and it does get me closer, but...

...following those instructions would require using the Outlook Express menus which I obviously can't do. I can work my way through the file structure with the aid of that article to find the email data location but I was also hoping to get the Address Book and the mail settings which if I could use the menus would be a piece of cake. Can you tell me how I can find and capture those items?

It only uses OE to find where you stored the files.

To work around that you just use search for the OE files.

I can't guess which OS is in use but for XP it's in the user's profile.

-> YES, a few items can't be retrieved without OE. That's the breaks for those that don't backup.
