Is there a way to connect a cell phone to a home DSL network

by liberty_for_life / December 21, 2008 8:16 AM PST

I don't have a cell phone signal at home, but I do have wireless DSL. Is there a way to connect my Sony Ericsson z750a to my router and browse the internet without using AT&T's network? Is that possible to do with an unlocked phone??

wireless internet

You can avoid getting internet charges (and paying for a separate data plan) from At&t as long as you have a wireless network established.

Thanks for responding!

I do have a wireless network in place, I just don't know how to connect my cell phone to it. Is there a way to do that and do you know how it is done??

You would need a wifi enabled handset

Unfortunately, your Sony Ericsson does does not include a wifi radio.

Right now there aren't a huge number of handsets to choose from with most carriers to accomplish this. One example is the ATT Tilt (HTC 8925), which I use to connect to various wifi networks instead of paying ATT $$ for 3G data. On the ATT wireless web site you should be able to search for handsets that include wifi.

What about Bluetooth?

Hey, thanks for replying!

What about through a laptop with Bluetooth built in? Can I set the phone up through the dial-up connection?

It may be possible...

...but the performance will be crappy compared to wifi. Check the Sony Ericsson sub-forums @ to see if anyone has gone the bluetooth route with that handset.
