Is there a site for Dell Reviews?

by kzolady / June 21, 2009 4:41 AM PDT

I am looking at a Dell 22x lightscribe dl burner. I can't find a review for it anywhere. And yes I did look at the Dell site, for at least 15 minutes. It is the correct burner. I only want an opinion on it, preferably by professionals and ppl that own one. The only place I could even find the burner is eBay. Can you please give me a clue as to where I can find reviews for Dell computer components?

That's a difficult one.

Probably they don't make them themselves. They buy somewhere in Asia, put a Dell-sticker on it, and assemble it in their PC's.

The usual way with Dell (desktops anyway) is to buy it in some configuration and if at some times something needs to be replaced or added go to the local computer shop, buy it and install it. Practically nobody will buy a Dell part for use in a non-Dell PC (monitors and printers might be an exception). So the market for Dell-parts is small or non-existing. And that makes it a not very suitable subject for reviews.

Practically the only thing that discriminates the one 22x burner from the other 20x or 22x or 24x burner is the sound it makes. When I bought my PC the shop said they switched recently from LG to Samsung (or the other way around, I really don't remember) because their new choice was much more silent then their old choice. So I said something like "OK, I assume you know what you're talking about" and ordered the custom-build PC with the Samsung burner (or the LG burner, I can't see it from the outside).

I guess, that if it isn't actually made by Dell, it isn't that much better than any other brand. I was looking at the same basic model in both LG and Lite-on. Kind of wish my drive was SATA. LG has a 22x dual layer lightscribe burner that reade Blueray and HD discs

The LG and Lite-on I had looked at were at The Dell was on ebay. They are 22x Lightscribe Dual burners with all sorts of media choices and at a good price. It may not be too cool, but Amazon is one of my favorites. They have a large selection, customer reviews, and the 2 times I got something that I was not happy with the didn't mind me returning them. I pretty much don't want an external burner either.
