General discussion

Is there a laptop like this?

- 14" or smaller
- must have dvd drive (read only okay)
- must have webcam
- any processor, any memory, any hdd
- any os (e.g., could be ubuntu or xp if that makes it cheaper)
- around $400 or less

I really want a netbook with a dvd drive, but none seems
to exist (in the US at least), so I can go for any kind of
laptop that has a dvd drive and webcam, but is not expensive.
Thanks for your input!

too big

Thanks, but the link you provided (dell inspiron) is 15.6" so it will not work. You are right about webcam, I can add an external one if everything else is right.

Then keep shopping.

At such a price point one or more items are likely to not be met. If you look at used or refurbs you might get something but that choice is yours.

Tough for that price...

Would you consider getting a netbook and then purchasing an external DVD drive and separate web cam? I personally would feel better about purchasing a new netbook than buying a refurbished model. You can browse through some netbooks and compare features at the PC Scout (found in laptop chooser in the sticky notes on this thread). You could get one in the $329 price range and purchase an external DVD drive for $50 and still be right around your $400 price range...

Just an idea Happy

Cheers,
Cassandra
