Can't access the story right now from digg.com, but is it true that the Vista Ultimiate edition may be $679?! What the heck is microsoft thinking?

Nope!

That was some early speculation that was quickly debunked. Several sites that had reported that pricing scheme have now rescinded the articles. For a quick article from Cnet's TechRepublic, click here. While Windows Vista Ultimate edition certainly will be expensive (Windows XP Pro. SP2 can go for $300), I don't put any faith into the current rumors.

Based on the media centre, its possible

Given how much extra we pay for the OEM media centre edition over the normal edition .. its very possible

That said it would be the boxed set full price, not the upgrade or OEM versions that most people will get

Another reason that Windows is becoming less important to me, and I'll get it when I get my next PC hardware and not before ..

The release of the final version of Vista is still way out on the horizon, so any of these price speculations are just that: speculations.
