Is the Gateway 832gm a replacement for the 825gm?

Apr 7, 2005 12:45AM PDT

I just saw a Gateway 832gm at MicroCenter and it seems to be configured fairly similarly to the older 825, wit hthe exceptions being that it has a Pentium 4 3 Ghz 620 processor as opposed to the P4 3.4 Ghz 560 processor in the 825. Anyone know anything about this PC? Pretty good price of $899 after rebate so I might jump on it.

Thanks.

A great system if

I had a 825gm and had an issue with electronic noises through the audio ports. Most noticible through headphones you could hear noises when the hard drive was accessed or when the mouse was moved. Was noticable on my system as well as the stores demo system.

If they have this issue fixed then I would definitely say this is an excellent step up from the 825gm.

Although the ghz is slower 3.2 vs 3.4 the 640 is actually a faster cpu then the 550.

did u ever resolve ur sound issue? i ended up returning my 825 after we replaced almost everything and couldnt fix it. although a friend of mine had a similar problem(although he only heard the noises when runnuing a certain pgm) he downloaded updated sound driveres and this worked.. didnt work for me though, i wonder if we had replaced the sound card or rather put one in, if that would have fixed it?

Best Buy is having a sale on the Gateway 832GM for this week (ends Saturday night) with a 17" LCD flat-panel monitor and a color printer for $1179.97 (re their flyer available in store).

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=999934400050006&type=product&productCategoryId=cat01173&id=pcmprd34500050006

My version of microcenter.com
shows the Gateway 832GM as being $999.99 without the LCD monitor or printer, same as Best Buy without the LCD monitor or printer. .

The only other things I see besides the lesser 3.0 GHZ, is that the 832GM has the 64-bit support technology (re model 6xx), and the 832GM comes with Internal (on board) GMA 900 graphics, but has a PCI-Express x16, video slot for future upgrading to a graphis video card. The 825GM already has a PCI-Express x16 video card installed.
