General discussion

Is the font better now?

Apr 29, 2005 4:03AM PDT

I have listen to your feedbacks and we have bolded the subject line in the discussion tree and I personally think it is much better as far as readibility is concerned. You guys were absolutely right about the font size being too small.

With this correction it also makes the subject line distinguishable between the next line which has the hyperlinked user name, so that there is less likely for the user to click on the profile name vs. the subject line.

We have also corrected the issue with FireFox where New! message when highlighted was running in to the next subject line.

in Firefox than it did ... but I still subscribe to the notion, as stated before, that "if it wasn't broke, why fix it?" ...

Cindi, Yes, even if we are not web designers or Moderators. The big ?M?, that I rely on always for the best help and suggestions, is always appreciated.

One question here?
How do the Moderators find time to address any, or all of the questions posted to CNET Forums?

Just saw the last submission that I posted come up as an email being posted.
Why did I view that strange screen?
I have never seen that screen before. Can anyone explain what happened? May need help from the CNET web designers?

Cindi, Sleep? You probably don't! Recently, I asked Bob Profitt the same question??How do you ever find time to post to these questions??

I check out a lot of forums, both PC & Mac. My wife will say to me, ?It's 3am, aren't you going to sleep??
Not untill I get the answer to a post!

Moderators, Thank You ALL! :

A Good Start
Apr 29, 2005 4:44PM PDT

Lee, A good start to get back to normal. What was wrong with the OLD look? It was certainly better than this, so-called new look.
The reply fonts and reading them are still way too small. Airial font is so mundane. Why get rid the older look and font? The older looks better than Airial and the font size for replys still is way too small.

I really wonder why you even attemted this new look without professional feedback in the first place.
It is not professional and in my estimation is a step backward.
There is also a problem with logging in to the Forum again. The password is not recognised by CNET. Only way to get to the CNET Forum right now is to ask for a forgotten password or to go to a book-marked past post that I had to use again twice in the last two days.

What is the time frame to get this act together?

Looking good Lee.....
Apr 29, 2005 4:55PM PDT

I had a concern about time it took to find a subject line in a long thread scrolling down through all the blue and finding a light black (gray) subject when it used to be highlighted in red. Thanks Lee, the subject is now bolded and I can find mo better.

Never really had a great problem with the font size, but at my age, the bigger the better. Wink

Somewhat.

I see improvement, but a slightly larger, different font would be much better. Verdana or Tahoma, perhaps. Why do the designers seem to be conserving vertical space? There seems to be plenty to use! I'd rather scroll a little up and down than try to read this teeny Arial font!

Echo here. . .
Apr 30, 2005 10:39PM PDT

It's the size of the font, not so much the style. The old font was larger and easier to read from a sitting position. Now I have to move closer to the screen and look through the bottom of my glasses. Instad of about 6 point, how about 10 or 12?

I agree wholeheartedly - just too small to be read easily. I can't understand why the font needs to be so small - 8/10 point would be great!

Not just the font size. How about the font style?
Arial is the same as Helvetica with the Mac. Helvetica was designed by Swiss typographers about 1960 or so. Very classic and wonderful and still so today.
I personnaly liked the font used before. Easy to read, modern and really neat!
Thank god it is not set in Wedding Text!

Fonts again

I have no beef about the style although I agree Helvetica would be preferable, but I wish there was more vertical space between the post title and the post name. I use 1152 x 684 resolution with a fast mouse on max. movement, and find that I often just miss the title and get 'profile' instead.
