Is the Dell XPS 435T a dog, or is it just my machine?

I purchased a Dell XPS 435T a year ago. I am a programmer and intended to use it for some serious work. It was slow out of the box. I was very busy at work at the time and (I agree foolishly) didn't take time then to try to diagnose the machine. Instead I fell back to using my old machine - a now six year old Dell 8200 - because it was literally faster and more reliable than the XPS 435T. The XPS 435 power saving feature was also a source of trouble, having a propensity for permanent sleep.

Is my experience typical or unique?

I have owner many Dell PCs over many years, but this machine is sufficient reason to shop elsewhere in the future.

At a year ago that would be Vista vs. XP.

We know who won that round.

Here I only had to deal with Vista for 1.5 years and moved onto 7 during the Beta, RC and now for reals. I will not be going back to XP or Vista. Sign me off on those. I think MSFT got it 99% right on this one.
