It may not be spyware but, I would be careful about downloading it. Anymore if something is cute and free, I get suspicious.

I once had Smilie Central and, whatever the strict definiton of spyware is, it is spyware ... along with My Search, for instance.

This is just a suggestion for you and it's what I do. There are 1000's of personal people's web sites where they make their own. Just make sure it is a personal website and not a commercial one. MOST of them will let you take whatever you would like as long as you save them to your computer and don't direct link to them. The ones that let you do that will post it on the web site so I would pick those. Most of them even have directions as to how to save them to your computer. I have a folder that I save them to in "My Documents" and I have somewhere around 300 of the small ones. Depending on what e-mail program you use, you can insert them into e-mails without the spyware problem. Most people that make them are proud of them and like to share them. The same with blinkies. No it is TrojanWare! I just downloaded it and scanned it using AVG using the most recent update(12/13/04) and the
results where that it comes with a trojan called "Dropper.Small.8.AA"

Trojan or whatever
Dec 14, 2004 8:50AM PST

Hi Suzy,

I am not disagreeing with you, but a nasty by any other name is still a nasty (the inverse of: "A rose by any other name is still a rose." Tho' even roses have an underside of having thorns.)

Meanwhile: Trojans, tracking cookies, diallers, back-door stuff, "free offers", virusses and all other variants of "nasties" all boil down to the attempt of someone to take some advantage of you ... leastways that is what I have come to conclude, during my two years (nearly) of actually having a computer.

I have not suddenly become paranoid, but I have learned that at least the cyber-world must not be trusted (I would trust my neighbours with my very life).

That said:

At least in this cyber-world of Cnet forums, with one and only one exception, it is a virtual "neighbourhood".

You will only ever get (in my experience) the best and free advice about what to do if you encounter a problem ... though of course you have to decide for yourself in the end.

I personally think that if anything unusual crops up, e.g. after installing something, then BE PARANOID and ask for help.

Regards, Gerry
