Is my monitor dead?

by Buckeye45 / December 11, 2009 10:05 PM PST

Recently my monitor started going black for a few seconds and then it would come back on. It progressed to the point where the monitor was always black - when you turned the pc on the monitor would say NO SIGNAL and go black.

I figured it was the cable, so I checked to make sure the connections were tight (they were) and then bought a replacement monitor cable.

I put the new cable on and the monitor would work again but almost immediately it started going black for a few seconds and now it will not come back on at all again.

Is my monitor dead? If it was my monitor why did the new cord work for a short time - it doesn't make sense, of course I am clueless about this kind of stuff. That is why I hope you can help.

Thanks in advance for you time.

It's etiher the monitor, or the cable, or the video card.

Swapping the cable didn't help, apparently. Now vary the other parts.

Check monitor on another system, easiest way. May be system issue, on board video failure but first plug monitor into another computer.
