Question

Is my laptop done for?

Mar 10, 2016 6:06PM PST

So a long time ago my friend gave me a laptop with a broken screen. It worked perfectly besides the screen which I used a monitor for. Yesterday I decided to clean the hard drive but when I connected to a monitor my laptop it would not display anything. The monitor would be put in sleep mode while the computer would run normally. Is my laptop done for? Is there a solution for this or should I send it to repairs?

Did you ever repair the broken parts?

I've seen folk try the external but at some point the machine may pop a message that can only be read on the laptop screen. Given the cost drops on LCDs did you fix the broken parts?

I'm not sure

The laptop still has the cable but not the screen itself

Close enough.

What you are telling me is the laptop has broken parts that need replacement. I know folk that try to avoid this but someday, it fails and the old external won't do.

Time to get it fixed.
