Is my DVD player failing?

by jrs514 / July 14, 2010 3:21 AM PDT

I have a large screen, rear projection type, TV. It came with a surround sound home theatre unit and a built in DVD player.

Recently, I have noticed DVD's freezing for a few second, playing normally, and then freezing again. This has happened on two diffrent discs of a boxed DVD set that I have, and just recently on a movie I rented.

Could this be common on DVDs, or should I be expecting problems with my player?

DVD issues

Typically when I encounter issues with a DVD, it's caused by dirt. I clean the surface then try again. But, once dirt has been eliminated as a problem, then most likely it's a DVD player problem, especially if the problem occurs on DVDs that have played fine before. Yes, there are DVDs around that do have problems, but they aren't too common.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
