Is my DSL speed too slow?

Apr 19, 2006 4:38PM PDT

Hello,

My ISP is SBC AT&T (formerly YAHOO!) DSL. It costs $40.00 a month and I download on average of speeds of 290-300kbps, and the max was probably 315kbps. The DSL line is shared with two other computers so surfing the web or playing games while others are downloading is a big problem. I honestly don't this is right compared to the other speeds i hear from others, unless im wrong and 40 dollars/month is the right speed for that price. Is there something wrong with this? Need help/advice/solutions.

THx

Sounds about right...

It's really too bad you're stuck with the old pricing scheme...the current deal is $13/month for the express package and $18/month for the pro package, less than half of what you're paying. However, the 300kbps download speed is pretty good for the connection speed and price tag. Just note that internet speed tests such as this one should place you close to either 1.5Mbps or 3.0Mbps, depending on which plan you have. (In a comparison, when using 56K dialup, you can expect to have a overall connection speed around 43Kbps and get around 4Kbps with downloading.)

Hope this helps,
John

Slow ATT DSL
Apr 14, 2007 10:58AM PDT

The new pricing scheme for slow dsl is $19/mo. It is slow - <320Kpbs rather than the promised 385 - 700 odd for me. I would pay the higher amount if that were available, but it is not.

The sales people are the best thing about ATT. Call them and ask to renew at the lower amount, unless you want to pay %56 for Comcast (now with ATT).
